Daily Yoga Practice at YogAnga Retreat
Most morning yoga sessions are based on traditional Hatha Yoga, unless otherwise indicated in the schedule.
Mandakini Puri’s classes combine traditional and often therapeutic asanas with pranayama and subtle practices
Ganga Puri’s Hatha Yoga approach, known as “Hatha Vinyasa YogAnga Abhyāsa,” emphasizes precise alignment, awareness of breath and prana, and the cultivation of balance and clarity through practice.
Alaknanda Puri offers sessions in Sukshma Vyayama, a subtle and meditative system of movements that works on the flow of energy in the body, supporting awareness, sensitivity, and inner balance.
Guest teachers may also occasionally guide asana and pranayama classes.
All guests following the ashram daily routine are welcome to join morning asana and pranayama sessions without enrolling in a teacher training. Short stays are possible, though longer stays are recommended to fully benefit from the practice.

Yogic Sukṣma Vyāyām
Also known as Himalayan Yoga, Sukṣma Vyāyām is a traditional system of subtle yet dynamic yogic exercises designed to awaken energy, increase awareness, and prepare the body and mind for deeper states of practice.
Though the movements may appear simple, the practice works deeply through concentration, breath, isolated movements, mudrās, and awareness of prāṇa. With consistent practice, Sukṣma Vyāyām helps cultivate strength, vitality, focus, balance, and mental clarity.
The practice traces through the lineage of Kartika Swami and Dhirendra Brahmachari, before being passed to Narvada Puri Mataji and later taught by Alaknanda Puri at Santosh Puri Ashram.
More than physical exercise, Sukṣma Vyāyām is approached as a meditative discipline: refining awareness of the subtle body while preparing the nervous system for deeper yogic practices.
Teachings may be offered during retreats, trainings, residential stays, or occasionally online upon request.
