Brahmananda Giri

With a background as a Neuromuscular and Craniosacral Therapist and former senior faculty member at Heartwood Institute in Northern California, Brahmananda Giri has been teaching Anatomy and Biomechanics in YogAnga Retreat’s Yoga Teacher Trainings since 2016.

Originally from North America, she first came to India in 1997 and has spent much of her life here since. In her early years, she traveled extensively on foot through the Himalayas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, visiting pilgrimage sites, temples, and caves while living as a wandering sādhū. During this time, she deepened her personal sādhana and learned traditional Vedic rituals.

She later devoted over fifteen years in service to her satguru, Mātā Amritānandamayī Devī (Amma), at Amritapuri Ashram in Kerala, South India. During this time, she served in the Ayurvedic clinic, taught yoga, and offered craniosacral therapy, while also assisting during Amma’s all-night darshan programs in India and abroad.

Alongside her years in Kerala, she attended several Kumbh Melas and regularly returned to Rishikesh to study Iyengar Yoga with Usha Devi at Omkarananda Patanjala Yoga Kendra.

Whenever the opportunity arose, she lived in simple kutirs offered by local villagers, caring for the dhuni (sacred fire) and serving guests as part of her daily practice.
